1️⃣ Main Responsibilities

 

Airspace management:

  • Monitor and guide aircraft during take-off, landing, and en route flight.

  • Maintain safe separation between aircraft to prevent collisions.

  • Allocate flight paths and altitudes.

Communication:

  • Give pilots instructions on heading, speed, and altitude.

  • Provide weather updates, runway information, and route changes.

  • Coordinate with other ATC units and airports for smooth handovers.

Emergency handling:

  • Assist pilots during technical issues, medical emergencies, or bad weather.

  • Coordinate with search-and-rescue teams when necessary.


2️⃣ Educational & Eligibility Requirements (India context)

 

Basic education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, or Mathematics (preferred: B.Sc. in Physics/Math or B.Tech).

Recruitment path in India:

  1. Through Airports Authority of India (AAI):

    • Appear for the AAI ATC recruitment exam (conducted periodically).

  2. Through the Indian Air Force:

    • For military ATC roles.

Eligibility criteria (AAI):

  • Age: 18–27 years (relaxations for reserved categories).

  • Medical: Class 3 medical fitness (good eyesight — 6/6 without glasses, good hearing, no color blindness).

  • Language: ICAO Level 4 English proficiency.
