A Pilot is a licensed aviation professional responsible for operating an aircraft safely, navigating the route, and ensuring passengers and cargo reach their destination securely and on time.
They are the commanders of the sky, combining technical skill, decision-making, and teamwork with strict safety compliance.
Pre-flight duties:
Study flight plans, weather reports, and navigation routes.
Inspect the aircraft and verify fuel, equipment, and safety systems.
Coordinate with air traffic control (ATC), cabin crew, and ground staff.
In-flight duties:
Operate the aircraft controls and monitor performance systems.
Communicate with ATC for route changes, altitude adjustments, and weather updates.
Ensure passenger comfort and handle any in-flight emergencies.
Post-flight duties:
Complete flight reports.
Oversee aircraft checks for maintenance.
Basic education:
10+2 with Physics and Mathematics (compulsory).
A science background is mandatory for pilot training.
Training path:
Student Pilot License (SPL) — Entry-level license for training flights.
Private Pilot License (PPL) — Allows flying small aircraft for non-commercial purposes.
Commercial Pilot License (CPL) — Required to work as a paid pilot for airlines.
Eligibility criteria:
Age: Minimum 17 years for SPL, 18 years for CPL.
Medical fitness: Must pass DGCA Class 1 Medical Examination (good eyesight, hearing, and overall health).
Language: Proficiency in English (ICAO Level 4 minimum).
Exceptional hand–eye coordination and reflexes.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
